Obi-Wan
Kenobi's lightsaber for Episode IV is probably one of the more difficult to reproduce,
even though it was assembled from found items. The emitter has not as yet been identified,
the upper grip was created from a British rifle grenade, the pommel is a sink knob (the
modern version of which is available from Armitage shanks) and the lower grip was made
from a gear. This is all held together by a clamp from a Graflex flash unit.
EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM
MENACE
In Episode I, Obi-Wan's lightsaber was completely custom-machined. This
is quickly becoming one of my favorite designs. In "The Beginning", the
making-of Episode I documentary included on the DVD release of The Phantom Menace, Ewan
McGregor gets to choose his saber, and he picks this one. At right is an image of my
replica of Obi-Wan's Episode I saber. This was custom-machined for me by a good friend!
